Many people are moving to the Pacific Northwest because of its beauty and business opportunities.…
You have probably labeled your boxes, made a checklist, and packed an overnight bag, but sometimes the smallest, easiest to forget details are just as important to your move as the larger items.
Continue reading for 9 must-know tips for your next move:
1. Create a box checklist
You probably have a checklist of all your items, but be sure to create a box checklist as well. Each box you fill, write a number and the name of the room where the box belongs. Then, create a list to go along with it. For example: “Kitchen: Boxes 2, 3, 5, 6, 7.” Print off multiple copies of the list and be sure to give your Redmond moving company a copy. As they unload your items, they can put them in the right room.
2. Pack green
Rather than buying boxes and bubble wrap, aim for a green move. Reuse boxes that you already have and use towels, blankets, scarves, etc. as packing materials. These items work as great packing material, and you won’t end up with a living room full of used packing material when the move is complete.
3. Dogs can get carsick
Whether you are moving across town or across the country be sure to plan the trip for your dog as well as your family. If your dog isn’t used to riding in the car, you may want to take a test drive to see how well he or she adapt to car rides. One tip: letting him ride in the front seat with the window down can reduce nausea.
4. Fish can get car sick too
You will definitely want to bring your water pets along for the move, but keep in mind that fish can have a rough time in the car. Be sure to keep the fish tank as still as possible throughout the car ride.
5. Hire a cleaner
Moving is stressful enough, so it can be helpful to leave the cleaning to a professional. After all your items are packed, don’t worry about staying behind to clean up. Focus on your new home, and hire a cleaner to spruce up your old house.
6. Don’t lose your remotes
You setup your tv and put in a movie for a relaxing night after your move, only to realize your remotes are in one of the many packed boxes sitting in your living room. Avoid rummaging through all your boxes, and pack the remotes with your electronics. Put the remotes and any other accessories in a ziplock bag and tape it to the electronic device.
7. Keep your power cords with you
There is nothing worse than settling down after a long moving day only to realize all your power cords are still packed away. Keep the power cords for cell phones, laptops, and any other device you may need with you, rather than packed away.
8. Give a neighbor a spare key to your old house
If you have a trusted neighbor, give them a spare key to your old house. If something needs checking or items are accidentally left behind, your neighbor will come in very handy.
9. Tipping your movers
If you are moving long distance, moving etiquette is to tip your mover 10 percent. For short distance moves, the suggested tip is 10-20 dollars per mover. If your movers do a great job, let them know!
