Moving in any capacity or sense can be arduous and difficult, but you would think…
Whether you’re moving from a cozy apartment to a lavish condo, a tiny shared room to your first house, or a quaint cardboard box to a ritzy penthouse, there is always a lot of work involved in a move.
But this is especially true when you are moving from one house to another one across town. Though the distance may not be too far, it’s important to make sure that you’re prepared for the work and the costs that will be involved.
How To Be Prepared For Moving Across Town
Moving companies are practiced at the art of getting all of your possessions safely from one place to another, and helping you begin to settle in. Our Bellevue moving company is dedicated to making all your moves smooth!
But even with the help of movers, there are some things that you should be prepared for when planning a move to another house across town.
Be Prepared for Additional Moving Costs
It’s common to think of a moving process as only costing as much as the act of moving itself. But in fact, there are additional costs that come along with the move that are harder to plan for. Here’s a few of these, for your consideration.
-
Cost of re-stocking your new refrigerator
Even with the help of a moving company, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to complete your move quickly enough to preserve any perishable items in your refrigerator. It’s good to plan on an initial grocery run once you’ve completed your move and have the necessary budget to stock up on essentials.
-
Completing repairs on your old home
Depending on what sort of arrangement you have with the buyer of your old home, you may have a repair or two that needs doing before you can completely say goodbye to the old house. Once our Bellevue movers have completed clearing out your old home, the house will be wide open and ready for any minor repairs needed.
-
Changing locks
The new residents of your old home will feel a lot more comfortable if you’ve taken the time to change the locks. (Not that they don’t trust you, of course!) While this isn’t a particularly expensive undertaking, it is still something to take care of before you can consider the job done!
You’re Going to Need a lot of Boxes
Have you ever packed up an apartment before? Great! This will be just like that; only with about 10 times more boxes.
While packing materials can be provided by certain moving companies, it will be invaluable to ahead of time identify what sort of packing materials suit your needs. Before the movers arrive, make sure that you have everything you need all packed up in your boxes and containers, ready to be transported.
It’s also important to remember that moving companies will bill you for all time involved in the move. So if the movers arrive at your doorstep and you’re expecting them to bring packing materials, you can expect them to bill you for all of the time that you spend packing your belongings. You’re much better off having the packing all wrapped up by the time the doorbell rings for your move across town!
It Isn’t an Overnight Process
Moving is always going to be a “process” rather than a singular task. Though our moving company is highly capable of making your move as seamless as possible, it’s not a process that is completed in one day.
Likely, you’ll spend a couple of days packing up your essentials, moving all your big stuff, and then returning to your home for some of the smaller items that fit in your own vehicles. Once you’re in your new place, you’ll be doing the whole process in reverse as you unpack.
But even though your move might take time, it will be all the more rewarding when you’re settled into your new home across town.
